I have avirus which cannot be removed so i have been advised to restore my computer...i was advised to press F8 or F10...neither of these are having the desired effect and if they are i dont really know what im doing...please help

To be honest i am quite technically dumb....could you explain what an F Key is? Also when do i need to press the F10 button...when the computer is booting up? I have found a solution in the sense of copying two DVD's worth of programme from the sony restore section in my computer but this seems very lengthy and i would rather do it a quicker way if possible.

The system restore option may be the best if you know around the date of the virus infection.
System retore is as follows:
start<control panel<system<system restore.
set to go back in time to a date just prior to when you got the infection.
Also you may want to run MalwareBites (AntiMalware).recomended!

Who has sugested to you that the virus cannot be removed? All viruses can be removed and a restore of the entire system should only be performed as a last resort, when everything else has failed.
If you have no option but to restore to factory settings, then you need to make a backup of the disk before the restore, so that you can restore data from it after the restore.
I had a customer who had a power cut with their Dell PC. When they turned the PC on again, all their documents had disappeared. They rang Dell who charged them £50 for the pleasure, looked into the problem and their solution was to restore back to factory settings. I spent two minutes on their system remotely and recovered all their documents for them and didn't charge them a penny.
Any tech support guy (or gal) worth anything should be able to backup the machine for you, preserving your data, then rebuild the system and replace your data. It may cost a bit, but you should not lose anything.

Does your Sony vaio have a factory image on a hidden partition or Factory installation discs? F10 sounds about right from my recollection. Make sure to try with the F-Lock key on (if u have it).
Check your sony cds, you might see a recovery disc there which you leave in your cd drive, boot from the cd drive and it will start recovery from there (some accessing factory image if you have it)
