Question

ActiveX control not installed

Asked by: albusaidi

I am using Vista SP1 and attempting to log onto a Terminal Services Remote Desktop which is working for other client with XP O.S so I know is configured and working properly.

When I go to the site, I receive the following error message:
======================
ActiveX control not installed
The Terminal Services ActiveX Client control is not available. You must install this ActiveX control before you can access RemoteApp programs through TS Web Access.

The ActiveX control is included with the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 client update. You can learn about this update and download the installation package by visiting this website.

After you install the package, you must refresh this Web page to see the list of RemoteApp programs.
======================

Looking in:  IE 8.0 -> Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Enable or Disable Add-ons, the  Terminal Services ActiveX Client control  is not listed as an option to either enable or disable.

Checking: IE 8.0 -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Internet -> Custom level -> Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins = ENABLE

My question is: How can I enable solve this issue?

I try many soluation posted in the internet but all of them it didn't work
regards

Hi albusaidi,

Try loading Vista SP2 and see if it helps?

I've seen this issue before, and it was fixed by resetting the internet explorer settings which you can do by going to:
Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset.

I don't know if this will work for you, but it's worth a try :-)

Another solution could be this, though it applies to IE7 on of XP SP3 it might also work on Vista, just remember to back up your registry before making changes.

If you are unable to see/enable the Terminal Services ACtiveX control in IE7 on XPSP3, as a workaround can you try deleting the following registry keys:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{7390f3d8-0439-4c05-91e3-cf5cb290c3d0}
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{4eb89ff4-7f78-4a0f-8b8d-2bf02e94e4b2}
Once you delete these keys, the activeX control should be enabled in IE7 and/or IE8

expert JoWickerman , when I upgrade it to SP2 is need to be register license for vista ?

can I lose any data ? let us said that the upgrade is stoped and O.s file is correpted can this happedned ?

what is the bust way to upgrade the O.S to Sp2?

by: TysVDBPosted on 2009-09-08 at 03:06:04ID: 25280141

Normally if your upgrade is stopped for whatever reason, you should be able to reroll to a previous restore point (restore is created automatically when updating windows, except when you disable it).
Best way to upgrade it is through the Windows Update feature which you can find by going to:
Start > All Programs > Windows Update (should be near the top of the programs list). You can also find windows update in the control panel I think.

Let us know if updating works.
