The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Audio/Video out of sync with AVI files

Asked by FloydTheDuck in Windows Vista, Video Cards, Video Editing

I built an HTPC with a bluray player and onboard GeForce 9400 GPU, 2GB DDR2 Ram, and a Core 2 Duo 2.93ghz CPU. When I first got everything up and running, it all worked well except for the OEM version of WinDVD8... it wouldn't play my blurays due to a region setting error... I looked it up and it seemed common with that version of WinDVD so I got another video player, Cyberlink (just a trial for now).
Anyhow, everything played fine, both blurays, DVD's, and AVI files from my hard drive for the first month or so. 2 weeks ago, I was watching some avi files that i downloaded. I had watched the first 12 or so episodes with no problem. Then I began getting audio/video sync issues. i thought it might be my CPU or RAM getting overloaded, so I shut down some processes. That didn't work, so I changed from cyberlink to WMP... that seemed to fix the problem, but 2 episodes later it resurfaced.
Thinking the problem was my hard drive not spnning fast enough, i tried burning a dvd and trying that... playing the dvd on my PC, still no luck. I put the DVD in my xbox and it plays fine with the audio/video in sync.
My guess is it's some sort of problem with a codec tha might've downloaded with an update to either windows or some oher program... however I am a codec newb and need help. I asked a friend and he suggested the klite codec pack. I downloaded that and I have no idea what to do with it.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
