Laptop HDMI output to amplifier

Hi,

I'm trying to play the music from my laptop (HP elitebook 8530w with windows vista business) on my amplifier. I'm trying to use my HDMI port on my laptop and my HDMI input on my amplifier (Onkyo TX-SR505E). I've selected the correct playback device on my laptop (Digital Output). But somehow I can't get it to work..

Try this:
Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Speaker settings -> Advanced -> Speakers -> Speaker setup -> 5.1 surround sound speakers -> OK -> Apply

Have you enabled this function in your bios be sure that onboard audio is set to auto.Then follow instructions above to go into control panel to use hdmi.

I'm using a coax cable now and given up on HDMI for now, but thanks for the help

Dennie you should ask that the question be reopened or closed rather than accepting solution because the problem was not solved.
