There are no x83 drivers for Vista but you may be able to get the 5200 Series drivers to work at least to get printing

Yes I just found thta...i half way thru installing it.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 02:56:33ID: 25738059

it doesn't detect the printer.  It stood at "Connect your printer"

any suggestion?

note: i have installed the x83 first prior this question.

its not detecting the printer...

Do you have an "Unknown Device" in Device Manager?

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:12:48ID: 25738131

nno "Unknown Device", but I do have "Other Devices" and in that, I have "Lexmark x83 Scan/Print/Copy)

by: MASQUERAIDPosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:19:08ID: 25738173

Delete the printer entry in Device Manager - restart without the printer plugged in and then try installing the 5200 driver again.  When the install tries to detect the printer replug the USB.

by: jackiemanPosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:20:29ID: 25738180

Vista 32 bit or 64 bit? If 64 bit, you will be out of luck.

Remove  "Lexmark x83 Scan/Print/Copy)" from "Other Devices" first.

Re-boot and try again for auto-detection.

Unzip the 5200 driver file into a folder using WinRAR.

When your Vista asks for a driver, point the search for driver to the folder as mentioned above.

Good luck!

Go to the URL below to download the 5250 driver.

http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=187681

My experience told me using "Windows Server 2003" driver is a better choice than Vista driver.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:25:38ID: 25738212

I tried the uninstall and doesn't work.  Went to device manager and had to connect the x83 in order to uninstall.  Now I'll restart

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:27:12ID: 25738221

i tried your link, but is asking for payment...can;t do that until certain if works.

by: jackiemanPosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:27:29ID: 25738223

You may need to go back to previous System Restore Point if X83 driver cannot be removed.

by: jackiemanPosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:29:48ID: 25738238

Beside, if your PC work under domain, you need to change the group policy to allow non-certified driver before they can be installed.

The DriverGuide site does allow free registration but you have to negotiate a lot of adverts.
This is the file jackieman linked to: http://www.masqueraid.eu/eestuff/CJB5200EN.exe

Masqueraid, thanks!

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:44:19ID: 25738324

I just restarted and wasn't successful on the 5200 install instructions.  I'll try this link for the 2003 install.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:44:58ID: 25738328

ran your link and it displays "not a valid Win32 application".

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:46:25ID: 25738335

any advice?

(note: my pc is not in a domain)

by: jackiemanPosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:54:34ID: 25738389

I am trying another link.

http://www.downloaddelivery.com/srfilecache/CJB5200EN.exe

Let me test it first. You can also download but do not run. I will do a virus scan first.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 03:58:43ID: 25738417

ok...im downloading it.

by: jackiemanPosted on 2009-11-04 at 04:01:34ID: 25738434

So, you want the printing function only?

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 04:02:40ID: 25738439

actually, just the scanner only.

by: MASQUERAIDPosted on 2009-11-04 at 04:03:38ID: 25738450

Just checked the link I posted & it runs fine - I can also vouch for the hosting server ;)

Scannning will be a stretch - as I posted at the beginning "at least to get printing"

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-04 at 04:03:42ID: 25738451

in the printer section, click add printer> local printer>next> select your printer, and click windows update

by: jackiemanPosted on 2009-11-04 at 04:11:39ID: 25738505

I am not sure whether it woks or not.

Use WinRAR to extract the fills inside CJB5200EN.exe file.

There will be a sub-folder called "scan" inside.

Connect your X83 to your PC, maybe the driver will be automatically installed or a pop up window will appear. Locate the scan folder and see whether your Vista accepts the inf file.

by: jackiemanPosted on 2009-11-04 at 04:13:34ID: 25738511

If automatically installed, go to "Lexmark x83 Scan/Print/Copy" in the Device Manager to replace the driver with the driver inside the "scan" folder.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 04:14:07ID: 25738517

Ok...will do...

by: MASQUERAIDPosted on 2009-11-04 at 04:24:11ID: 25738579

If this doesn't get any further the latest incarnation of Virtual PC 2007 has USB support so you could still run the scanning in an XP session within Vista using the drivers we know are OK (or even run one box on Windows 7 with its built in XP virtualization). VPC however currently won't support the USB connection "seamlessly" so you'll need to replug the x83 everytime you start a session (seemless - the equivalent of autodetection of what's already connected - USB connection is on the development list)

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 04:28:24ID: 25738612

Thats an excellent idea!  I already have VPC 2007 installed in that PC.  Ok, let try the steps and get back to u.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 05:40:31ID: 25739140

At installed browsed at "scan" folder and gave "...doesn't contain compatible software driver...".  I guess, VPC will be the solutions.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 05:50:07ID: 25739244

help!

by: jackiemanPosted on 2009-11-04 at 05:55:05ID: 25739290

Can you right-click the inf file inside the scan folder and select install and see whether any new device come up in the device manager?

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 06:11:45ID: 25739412

ok...

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 06:18:15ID: 25739465

no action on INF...

they were 2 "jettmgr.in_" and "lxbtscxp.in_" (obviously i change to .INI)

no good

by: MASQUERAIDPosted on 2009-11-04 at 06:33:44ID: 25739630

you can't simply rename those files and get them to work - the .in_ suffix means they've been compressed.

Open a cmd window navigate to the .in_ files and try
expand lxbtscxp.in_ lxbtscxp.inf
& repeat with the other - then try with those files.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 09:15:15ID: 25741560

YES U R RIGHT!   its supposed to be uncompressed.  Let me try it.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 09:18:17ID: 25741596

expand them, and no results,

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-04 at 09:32:03ID: 25741731

did you try what i posted yet ?

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 09:38:13ID: 25741791

Yes, but when selecting the printer, x83 is not there.

by: MASQUERAIDPosted on 2009-11-04 at 10:04:02ID: 25742029

>>expand them, and no results,
At least we know they don't work then, it would have been a shame if you'd given up on them and it was the file compression that stopped it working.

Time for VPC?

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-04 at 10:06:54ID: 25742060

yes! ....definitely!

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-10 at 01:20:23ID: 25783663

I will close this question and open the VPC and lexmark question:

"How to use Lexmark x83 drivers for Vista Business VPC XpPro session"

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-10 at 01:27:08ID: 31649901

i dont know how to credit when there is no solutions, so I just distribute to all.

Any advice on this will be good for future issues

Thanx all

I open up a VPC question

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-10 at 03:54:23ID: 25784469

if you found no solution, you may close the question, and give the points to yourself; or distribute a limited amount of points
