What is causing my computer to freeze??

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1130usEntertainment Notebook laptop that's running Windows Vista.  it keeps freezing whenever i click a command.  I try to install the "Windows Vista Service pack 2 for x64- based Systems (KB948465)" update, it fails every time... I cleaned the computer with Malwarebytes scan and Avira AntiVir Personal Scan and finally I ran a Hijackthis  scan.
