HP 3120n freezes on start on vista.. after shut off does not start

Here is the situation with the HP pavillion 3120n. When the machine starts it freezes on the Vista welcome page. If I shut the machine off and restart nothing happens. Total blank screen.
I have to wait and restart the machine and it will work just fine in safe mode. But again after restart in normal mode it freezes.
Tested the memory the results came out as PASS.
