Question
Disabling the task bar and start menu
Hi - I'm trying to disable the start menu and task bar on a large number of Windows XP embedded machines.
My problem is that the machines are playing media but some clients have worked out if they reboot and click the start bar - they have time to get iexplore running before media player locks them out which is a nightmare for me.
I've tried renaming the registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{5
to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{-
but this has no effect. Any suggestions?

The method I have found quite effective for doing something similar is to stop the Explorer process from launching completely. There is a registry key - in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Wi
Be sure, however, that you have access to another user account and task manager, so if you do need to manage the XPe machine, you can access Task Manager and go to File, Run and enter explorer.exe to launch explorer and use the system as usual.
