Question

Reimage Neoware XPe Thin Clients

Asked by: justinmoore14

Hello Experts, I am trying to find steps on how to Reimage Neoware XPe Thin Clients. I can get the latest image from HP Site fine, but it is an executable and you really cant do anything with it unless you have a utility to push the image out to the Thin Client (Unless I am missing something).I know that Wyse has a utility that will allow you to push the images out to the Thin Clients, but am unable to find one for the Neoware ones. All of the articles I run across either are dead links on HP site or to Neoware site (Which doesnt exist anymore since HP bought them and acquired the domain name). Any ideas??

Hi justinmoore14,

Those OSes are reimaged by methods ranging from FTP and TFTP to USB flash utilities. It will help if you post the exact model # that you are running. The Neoware XPe stuff is End of Life from HP, but there may be an upgrade path to image with the newer HP Thin Client, which is Linux based as far as I can tell.

Have you seen:  http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01627708/c01627708.pdf

Modus_opera&thank you for your response to my post.

Mrjoltcola, I can use any of the three methods that you posted above, but the problem is finding the software that will allow me to use those methods. For example, on the WYSE Thin Clients I use TFTP and there software.

As for an exact model number...I have several different ones, but here is one. "Neoware CA10" which I believe HP cross references as "HP Neoware e140".

I am not having problems finding the images for any of the models that I have (even the Linux image in some cases), but can't seem to figure out how to get the images onto the Thin Clients themselves.

I am currently reviewing the link that you posted.

Mrjoltcola, I finally ended up figuring out how to re image the thin client using a usb Thumb Drive, however when it restarts itself it hangs at Verifying DMI Pool Data and I don't know why. Any thoughts??

Does the device have any settings for boot device? That happens if it cannot find a valid bootable image, so check your BIOS (if there is one) on that device. I'm sorry, past my original suggestions I'm not familiar with the specific device.

Mrjoltcola, thank you for all your suggestions and help. I was finally able to figure it out after lots of trying. Since I have yet to find any documentation on this still I am working on several different write ups that I will post on my Tech Site and link back here when I finish them.

As for the Verifying DMI Pool Data error I was getting...I got that resolved as well. I thought it was a faulty image at first but it ended up being how the Thin Client was accepting it (All this will be included in the documentation).

I am going to leave this post open until I get the documentation done (Will probably take a week at least) and then accept that answer as the Accepted Solution. If neither you nor Modus_opera& has an objection.

Thanks again,

Justin

Ok, I have finally finished the write ups on the Neoware Thin Clients (Eight of them). You can find them at the following link.
