The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Ghosting XP to several PCs, How?

I need to install Windows XP on one PC, fully configure it, and then ghost/image it onto several hard disks (with licence number/product ID removed), for a corporate deployment type of situation. For various reasons I can't use this: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/itpro/deploying/introduction.asp

This is how we do it in Windows 98SE: We install the OS, drivers, software etc and then go into the registry, do a search for the product ID, remove it (and associated entries) and shut the PC down. The next time it's started the PC starts WITHOUT a Windows code and you get a screen that requires you type in the product ID before it lets you into Windows (sort of "first user experience"). I need to do the same thing in Windows XP but I can't find the code in the registry or anywhere else on the disk. ( I suspect it's converted into some other form/numerals/binary). Also, removing it may not be possible.

It is all above board. I do of course know about product activation. All 100 PCs have exactly the same hardware and all of them will have individual Windows XP Home product IDs/keys, and individual users will have to call Microsoft and do the activation themselves.

Can't do a ghosting using Norton or similar because the original Product Key would get copied over to 100 PCs :-(

Any help will be appreciated.
