Hi All,
I need to uninstall the gohip browser enhancement, IE toolbar, from my colleagues WinXP system.
I have looked in Add/Remove programs, but it doesn't show up and I couldn't find any buttons on that tolbar, to uninstall it. It is really painful with ads popping up all the time.
Also, is there a way to prevent a user from installing such toolbars?

The link Zoplax gave you will help you eradicate that Spyware. These spyware programs are insidious, and a real problem. Here's an alternative link (not for points)

You can uninstall the gohip application possibly by going to add/remove programs and if it is listed, remove it. I do not think this application is listed though.
You can remove the bar by opening Internet Explorer> Tools> Internet Options> Programs> Reset web Settings> OK.
Now restart IE (and probably your computer in case...)
This usually completely removes the Gohip Bar.

While this might work, it might impair the functionality of being able to download other legitimate activeX controls, so I went and unchecked the "Enable third party extensions" box in Internet options, in the tools menu.

It is truly amazing how deeply this spyware and unwanted stuff infiltrates systems. I'm truly surprised, though, Ravi that you graded this with a C rather than an A; how come?

Thanks for the link about the grades.
I am a new member, so was unaware of the practice of giving grades.
I would like to ask the moderator to move the grade upto 'A'.
Actually I had used Ad-Aware before, but didn't remember it, and then I searched the previous posts which mentioned Ad-aware and I got to work.
But I did want to accept the answer provided, because it works and for the time poeple had taken to answer it.

You might be able to remove it by running the Ad-Aware utility (www.lavasoft.de). Install it and choose all scanning options, then run the scan process and clean out anything it finds. Hopefully the thing will be removed.
