What is a Host ID?

Im tryin to do an installation of some software, and ive been prompted about a question regarding my Host ID for part of the installation, can somebody tell me what this would be and where I can find it? I am using the Windows XP OS Professional Edition.

Need more Details...

1. Are u in a NetWork?
2. What is the software ur trying to istall?
3. The reason it is asking the ID, if u know..

It would be a number like 192.123.231.2...

But it is impossible to say more without the necessary information.

Sorry for any mistakes , I might have confused IP and HostId.

But u probably Don't undestand the explanations by iman1980
[judging by the fact that u did'nt know what a HostId was..
Like myself ;-) ]

I suggest u give more info so that someone else might help!

iman1980, i think youre on the right track, can you give more more of an explanation? Are u on AIM? perhaps we can chat over AIM, If u can solve this problem for me ill double the points.
i am not on AIM, what software in paticular are you trying to install?

from everything ive read, programs that require host id do it different ways, some have a small utility built it to give you the informations you/they need, others use part or all of your mac address, that you look up in ip/ command prompt and email to them. without knowing what program in specific you are trying to load it is a shot in the dark to be any more specific than i have above.
