Browse All Topicsit seems Windows XP is blocking many, much too many internet accessing ports. Does it have its own firewall, if so, how can i disable it ? My friend set up ftp server and i can't connect to him, i tried to play a network game (a small .exe) with him and i also can't connect. I can connect to other Win9x user. I think its due to XP. any solution ?

Here's how:
1. Goto Control Panel and open up Network Connections.
2. You should see your network connection there. If it is, right-click on it and select properties.
3. You should get a bunch of properties for your connection. Click on the Advanced tab.
4. In order to remove the firewall, make sure that the box in the Internet Connection Firewall is NOT selected.
5. This should remove the firewall!

You could just disable parts that the firewall protects... if you want to. For example, if the firewall is blocking access to the FTP, you can allow access to the FTP alone, and leave everything else. It's pretty much the same procedure as above, however, instead of doing step 4, there should be a settings button towards the bottom of the screen. Clicking on that button will bring you a number of options. Just select the services you would like to allow access for.

Hi there,
Yes windows XP does have it's own firewall built in
You can find it by selected your Internet connection, right click and choose properties.
On the advancced tab you will see the settings for the firewall options.
