Thank you for your reply.
Well not only OpenGL screen savers but any 3d screen saver even windows included screen savers (such as flying objects 3d) I tried changing the drivers in my graphic card with no results.

How does it handle 3d games?
I have a screen saver (the regged version of the plus aquariom, on a 733 PIII with 512 mb RAM, and a 64 mb Gforce card and it "stutters"
Did it always do this? if not, try rolling back the drivers
what other programs are running (in systray)?

3d games are okay,I have aquarium plus too and it does exactly what you say it "stutters".
My pc is a  1000 PIII with 512 mb RAM and the Radeon ddr 7200, i tried rolling back the drivers even installing again the old drivers from the ati-cd but it doesn't work.
In the systray there are a lot of programs running and some are programs that you may not know as I'm Italian and my O.S. is an Italian version too.

thank you and keep trying to solve this problem.
 don't give up !
bye

try shutting of the programs in the systray, and check
I never did figure out mine, I chose  to power down the monitor after 1 hr

The best action (in my opinion) is to rethink the screen saver idea.  Windows does not "need" a screen saver like old text based OSes did since they are not static and new monitors are much less susceptible to burn-in.  Add to that the fact that you can tell Windows to shut down the monitor after a period of time and you have no real motivation for a screen saver other than to see them - they serve no purpose in today's computing world.  Now let's take a look at the downside of using them:  If you keep a resource intensive application running (like some screensavers) then Windows cannot use its power saving features effectively.  It will therefore waste power.  Windows will also be constantly interrupted by the screensaver when it tries to run background tasks such as defrag and scandisk.  So in the end you aren't helping anything by running a screensaver and possibly preventing Windows from taking care of itself appropriately.
Sorry I didn't give you a fix but I really believe that the best solution is to not use screensavers.

I made two simple operations and everything is okay now.
First of all in the Bios I returned to the setup defaults because I noticed that low performance of the system when using graphic or multimedia files and when I restarted the system was faster, then follwing stevenlewis advice (thank you Steven) I closed one by one all the application in the systray finding out that two of them where particularly responsible of the problem.

Thanks
