The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How to make My Computer open the C:\drive on a mouse-click

Asked by LauriePrior in Windows XP Operating System

Tags: xp, computer

I have asked this before back in March 2002 but I cured the problem temporarily but now it has returned.
Double clicking C:drive in My Computer won't open the C drive tree.  Instead you have to right-click and choose OPEN.
If I go to Tools Folder Options File Types and choose DRIVE from the list and then Advanced I find that the EDIT button is greyed out.   I wanted to choose EDIT so I could ask it to Open with C:\windows\explorer.exe and hopefully cure it of this ill.  But with the button greyed out I have no idea what to do to switch this facility permanently back on.  Windows Explorer doesn't have this problem.  It's only My Computer.

After looking at the Greyed out button and selecting OPEN and then not changing anything then closing out - the My computer is suddenly cured of the problem until you next reboot then it reverts back to needing a Right Click and choosing open from the menu which is annoying to say the least.  Any cures - I tried the Windows HKEY Classes Root Directory\shell as "none" but in fact there was no directory\shell in there so couldn't change anything.

It seems a very silly problem for XP and never I never had this problem in windows 98.
Any help gratefully received.  Loadsa points for this one.
