WordPad can´t save as .doc?

WordPad can open .doc-files from the drop down-menu, but in the Save as-menu there is no .doc option, just RTF and a few other pure text-file types. However, it´s possible to save a file as .doc if you type "filename.doc" in the filename menu.

My question: Is there any way (registry hack) to include the .doc file type as an option in the dropdown menu in the Save as-dialog?

yes, but that saves it as a text file not as a document file (like a word document). I could give the file an extension of .jpg but it won't be a picture because it would be standard text just with a different extension.

No, that is programmatically put into WordPad. It can't be changed (from what I've seen). You can however use a 3rd party program that acts like Wordpad and yet can read .doc files.

Thanks for the fast reply, guidway.

I got file extensions and file types a little mixed up there...

Any tips on small, no frills word processors, similar to WordPad, that can open and save .doc-files?

to the contrary. it can probably be done, as i have done it in MS Paint to save as PSD (Photoshop).

i will look into it for you. e-mail me... anacin@cox.net

It is possible to save a file as a different type, as long as the option, >tools>folder options>view>hide extensions for known file types box is unchecked in explorer. Alternatively, you could enclose the whole thing in quotes, as "filename.doc". As far as the drop-down box, i have searched the registry but found nothing. I'll keep looking though.
Umm nexusnation EE perfers it if things are not done via email. This is a public forum which some so pay a fee to use so everything that transpires in the question needs be out in the open so all can have the information.
