Floppy drive is not in the My Computer folder

 Hi I recently did a fresh install of Windows XP for my brother's Computer. Some how he lost the Floppy drive from the My Computer folder. I went to the Microsoft Website for info but was unable to solve the problem. Can you suggest away to fix it. Thanks   colm54

does it show in device manager? right click on my computer, properties, hardware tab, device manager.

Your floppy disk does NOT appear in Windows XP's My Computer. In Device Manager, your floppy disk may be listed as 37 or 39.

This behavior is the result of corrupted or incorrect registry entries.

To fix this problem:

1. Copy / Paste the following to a FloppyFilter.reg file:

---------------------------------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E980-E325 11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-

---------------------------------------------------------

3. Merge the FloppyFilter.reg file with your registry or run regedit /s FloppyFilter.reg.

4. Shutdown and restart your computer.

1.Did XP automatically load motherboard drivers from its set of drivers, if so maybe try to load the motherboard drivers off your motherboard installation CD?

2. Check that the floppy connector cable and floppy power cable are properly connected.

I recently had this problem with a Kazaa virus. Try holding "del" on bootup and in the bios choose somthing like "restore default settings" I dont remember exactly what the option is but its somting like that. Howte this helps.
