Browse All TopicsAfter i defragment my HDD (C:\ 10GB), it still needs to be defragmented because there still are a lot of files that couldn't be defragmented. I'm not planning to delete these files, so what can I do, so my HDD isn't defragmented anymore?
I have about 2GB of free space on my c:\.

If you're using MS's defragger, there's not much you can do. You'll need a third party defragger that can perform an offline defrag, like PerfectDisk (www.raxco.com). I think you can download a trial version of PerfectDisk from their website.
Also, with only 20% free space, you might want to consider getting a larger or additional drive.
As pointed out by sramesh2k you can force XP to defrag before XP gets to the desktop.
Here is a free utililty that will defrag the page file and the registry as well.

This may be due to the Windows paging file. This cannot be defragmented while in Windows. Instead you can enable Boot Defrag to defrag the system files before loading windows.

To enable Defrag:
Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWAR
Select Enable from the list on the right. Right on it and select Modify. Change the value to Y to enable
Reboot your computer.
