I have a laptop with WinXP Pro, and when I got it, WinXP was allready installed. The logonscreen howerever was the old style logon from win2000.
I tought well that's quickly solved... but when I open the control panel and go to the user accounts, I can't change the way the user logs on (I get the same screen as where you to execute the command 'control userpasswords2' I tried 'control userpasswords' and it was just the same).
I found out that the registry key for this setting is HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Wi
The value for that DWORD is set to 0. But when I change the value to 1 and reboot, I still don't get the logon screen AND the value in the registry has changed back to 0.
Any ideas on how I can solve this??
It would be pretty much appreciated.
Sorry for the low amount of points, but I just joined and am busy on earning exrta points.
Kind Regards,
Steven

Well I believe the pc was on a domain before, but at this point I'm allways loggin in on the local machine not on a domain.
The logon screen is the old style just a litle box where you can type in your name and password. Want I wanted to do is change that to the new windows XP style.
It doens't seem to work...
Can you tell me how I might be able to check te profile settings and change them? I don't really know how they are set at the moment.
Kind Regards,
Steven
The point isn't that you log into a domain, rather that the you are able to login to the domain, that the computer is joined to the domain. When the computer is joined to a domain or workgroup, you will see the old login screen. This might work, but I'm not sure... try right-clicking on "My Computer", then click on "Properties". Under the "Computer Name" tab, click on the "Network ID" button. Is the top radio button selected by default? If so, try selecting the bottom radio button ("This computer is for home use...") and continue on so the computer doesn't think it's joined to a domain.
Like I said, I'm not sure this will solve your problem, but it'll be interesting to see if it does.

You can't use expert points when asking questions. I personally think that's horribly crappy on EE's part, but that's the way things are... based on money. If you want points, you're going to have to wait for them (5 extra each day) or purchase them.
As for the question, can you be more specific about the login screen being not what you're expecting? I'm not overly familiar with XP (I highly prefer 2000), but I think a few things can control the appearance of the login screen, such as the way you have profiles setup, whether you're joined to a domain (and can login to a domain), and the shell interface of the default profile (Windows XP's new style or the old style).
