Question

e-mail problem

Asked by: surlee

I'm running win xp. I have been sending and receiving mail. till I upgraded my incredimail. Now I can't use the mail at all. Even on Outlook express. I've gone over the settings with my cable server, and it's not at there end. What could it be? I have tried uninstalling Incredimail, and reinstalling it. No good. Some said it might have screwed up my registery, but I don't know how to check it. Help

Have you tried a repair/reinstall of Outlook Express?

by: sljapicPosted on 2003-06-18 at 06:29:08ID: 8748959

Go to start/run and type in regedit
after that, go through the menues and look for any entires under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_USERS (it will be under software or default) that refer to IncrediMail. Delete them, close the registry table and reboot. Try firstly your mail software, and then reinstall the incredimail if you whish... If this doesn't help, if the update installation was recent, you can always use the system restore option (start system restore wizard from help), that will get you to the time before the instalation took place and out of trouble... Regards,

Vlad

Question number one is... Can you ping pop3.mail.wideopenwest.com? If you cannot, check your DNS settings. Before scrapping software, or pissing with your Antivirus, I'd highly advise troubleshooting network issues 101.

If you can ping that address, try telneting to pop3.mail.wideopenwest.com 110

Just FYI, I tried pinging it myself, and don't get anything. It's got an MX at 64.233.207.14 and it's typical www address is 64.233.207.13. I'm unable to ping either. Maybe it's server end?

G'luck.

I don't understand a word you said. What is PING. How do iI check my DNS settings? If I knew all that, I'd be an expert too.  :)
You have to draw it out for me.

All you need to do is click Start > Run.
In the run box, type "cmd" and click OK.
At the command prompt type "ping pop3.mail.wideopenwest.com"
After you do this, you'll get a print out. Either ping times (measured in milliseconds) or Destination Unreachable.
If you're getting destination unreachable, I'd suggest talking to your host. That server may be down, or a router between you and the server.

Please feel free to ask more if you're still uncertain.

OK, I did that, and this is the message I got
