Gretings to all.
Dual boot option - XP or ME.
O/S win XP. Even when I am not on the internet, My internet Dialup window keeps popping up, even after I cancel the dial out, it keeps trying to dial the ISP # through my modem.
The same does not happen when I boot up with O/S Win ME.
Please advice.

Disabling Auto-Dial prompt.

Method 1:
Right click the My computer icon (Desktop), open Manage/Services and Applications/Services. In the right pane scroll down to Remote Accces Auto Connection Manager and double click it. Use the Startup
type drop box and choose Disabled.
Method 2:
Network Connections/Advanced/Dial-
open internet explorer > tools > option > connections > choose "never dial a connection"
important:
if you are sharing the internet connection using ICS, the client computers may initiate the dial-up process which you cannot cancel. The only option is to disable the feature called "
Open Network Connections (click start | run | "ncpa.cpl")
Click the network connection on which Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is enabled, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.
On the Advanced tab, under Internet Connection Sharing, do one of the following:

UNCHECK "Establish a dial–up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet" check box.
The problem is most likely that Automatic Updates for Windows are turned on. This annoying feature can be turned off by:
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type "msconfig" in the box
4. Click Open
5. Click the "startup" tab
6. At the very bottom of the list, there's an "Automatic Updates" box. Uncheck this box.
You can also uncheck other things in th startup tab that may be causing the dial-up box to pop up all the time.

It could be that you have something running on the Windows XP boot up that you do not have on the ME one that is attempting to connect to the internet. This could be Kazaa or MSN Messenger. To check this goto Start, Run and type "msconfig" in and press "OK". Goto the start-up tab and see if you can recognise anything in there that may use the internet to run. If unsure, uncheck everything except you're anti-virus software, apply and reboot.
