How do I add items to Notification Area?

Hi all,

It absolutely escapes me, but I thought I knew at one point how to ADD an item (volume control for example) to the Notification Area. I'd greatly appreciate a solution; my XP volume control was there, but has subsequently dissapeared (yet still exists in Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment)

Delete the IconStreams and PastIconsStream values from the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify

Thanks for the quick response. After deleting the aforementioned registry keys, how would I go about ADDing an item (volume control for instance) into the Notification Area?

Well you don't really add any icons to the Notification area manually that is hardcoded into the program not the Operating System. If it is just the volume control then

Control Panel > Sounds And Audio
Put a check mark by Place volume control in task bar

Why not use quick launch toolbar instead?
There you can add anything you like while tray is reserved for system....
