cannot view .CHM extension files

Hi guys,
I have a XP Pro machine. i was able  to open the .chm extension help files
but now i cannot do that now.

what should i do to open that kind of files again...

Recently, with the release of several security patches for Windows XP and Internet Explorer, the .CHM files have been added to the "Unsafe File List" and patched to prevent you from inadvertantly opening them and then damaging your system.

Do you get any error message while opening a .CHM file?

Check if the file "hh.exe" exists in C:\Windows folder. without this file, CHM files won't open.

When i try to open a .chm file , it says that windows cannot open this file. in order to open that file windows need to know the program that will open it, and windows can look it up from the web...

i do have the hh.exe file in c:\windows folder, but still i am not able to open the files

'View - Folder Options' menu in Explorer. On the 'File Types' tab check that there is an entry for 'Compiled HTML help file' -if not, add an entry.

In open, specify "c:\windows\hh.exe" %1

Workaround:
hh.exe <chm file name>

Hello everyone,
I also have this problem, but a little bit difference.
I was able to open all .chm files, but now I can open only some files, some files that I was able to open show
"The page cannot be displayed"
and I tested by send those problem files to my friends, they can open.

I don't know why this happen
My O.S. is win XP pro
