Perhaps running Adaware might help also and doing a full windows update also!

Browse All TopicsI have recently purchased a new computer with WIN XP. I installed both Norton Antivirus 2003 Professional and Zone Alarm Pro. I have used both in the past without issues on WIN 2000. I now realize that installing Zone with XP was a mistake as it has caused nothing but problems. I uninstalled, using the current unistaller from Zone Alarm. But my computer still crashes. When I look at the event log, it shows a True Vector error message. I also have problems with Norton restarting my computer everytime it scans. I checked the event log but it does not lists any error messages for Norton.
So - I think the problem is two fold and I think it started after I installed Zone Alarm. How do I fix all? Should I go into the registry and delete what is left from Zone Alarm? Should I also uninstall and reinstall Norton? Would I need to also go into the registry and delete any files left by Norton before I reinstall? Zone alarm instructions say that changing the registry can cause serious problems with the computer....but I already have problems ...any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.....

Either:
a) restore your pc to its virgin state (before you installed any software at all).
b)delete all ZA entries in registry and Windows/System32/Zone Labs folder. Ignore ZA's advice about *serious damage* they've screwed yout pc haven't they?
NAV03 is pretty good (compared to other versions) are you running it from a schedule (ie turn of comp after scan)? Do you update it often?
I have deleted all instances of Zone Alarm...when I run NAV03 - either by schedule or a manual scan, it crashes (causing my computer to reboot) Event viewer says system error. Seems to crash when it gets to the System/WBEM folder, but if I can any of those folder individually, there is no problem.
I uninstalled and reinstall NAV - same problem. Yes I update regularly - I am religious about it...and since this was a new install, it automatically logs on for the updates....and just to be sure, I ran live update after I rebooted.
Tried to run XP system restore - but it tells me there is nothing to restore - this was after I deleted ZA
If problem persists, I guess I could restore from disc.
Tried running memtest? http://www.memtest86.org.
I agree with aleshm, adware is a good program. You can download it from www.lavasoftusa.com
I use NAV3 Pro with no problems. I think your problem may be with the Zone Alarm.
If every time you run NAV your system crashes maybe you should go into your system administator and check your errors. (security) ect.Somthing is causing your system to crash is a serious thing. d_may
I have two problems - one as a system error and the other the service control manager....I have listed them below. I have deleted ZA - everything including what was in the registry. I am wondering if the problem came from a corrupt file from my old computer when they did file transfer, which is another issue since I asked them to not image my old drive. I will download the ad-aware to see if it helps.

as far as zone alarm goes, go here and see #2 http://www.zonelabs.com/st ore/conten t/support/ znalmInsta llFAQ.jsp
if for some reason you feel you have followed these directions to a t, then maybe a system restore to a point prior to the uninstall, and retry the uninstall. i do know that past versions of za do include registry editing to get it completely out, maybe their new uninstaller has addressed these issues when used exactly as directed. personally, i had nothing but problems from za and nortons and refuse to use any of their products.
