P.S. in bios it normally looks like this on the cmos setup screen

IDE 1 [60gb hard drive name]
IDE 2 [40 gb hard drive name]
IDE 3 [cdrw name]
IDE 4 [DVD-rom name]

now i get this

IDE 1 [
IDE 2 [
IDE 3 [cdrw name]
IDE 4 [DVD-rom name]

i have the left bracket of the top 2 ide but that is it. when i push enter for details it has the right size and specs but no name. i get invalid system disk when i try to boot up. i ran the XP pro CD recovery console and it said i had no hard drive. ahhhhh!!!

by: The_Computer_Guru_777Posted on 2003-12-21 at 17:51:49ID: 9982863

by: The_Computer_Guru_777Posted on 2003-12-21 at 17:54:09ID: 9982868

ex: disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\drivers\Ntfs.ys

this is so weird!!! i got into windows by chossing optimized defaults in bios then rebooting and choosing last know good config. i then tryed sfc /scannow and got some weird error about not being on the network. i am not part of a domain. i am only sharing internet through router with 1 other pc. anyways i told sfc to can on next boot and that is where i am at it is now scanning. why did all this happen?

by: The_Computer_Guru_777Posted on 2003-12-21 at 18:02:25ID: 9982896

i have sp1 installed. but i didn't order the cd. when i run sfc it asks for my  service pack 1 cd not my windows xp cd. why? i have SP1 integrated into my XP cd and still it wants the SP1 cd!

by: stevenlewisPosted on 2003-12-21 at 18:28:25ID: 9982957

>>why did all this happen?

just a guess, but when you blue screened wit the usb dirve in, it glitched your bios  bit. As far as the sfc, I wouldn't worry to much about it. As long as your machine is back to running OK
