The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Windows XP Blue Screen on startup

Asked by eyequit in Windows XP Operating System, Windows Installer

Tags: driver_irql_not_less_or_equal_to, xp

Hello,
I have just re-installed the operating systems for my machine. I am running a dual boot (XP Pro and 2000 Pro) Athlon 2500 on an Gigabyte GN400pro Motherboard, 1 gig DDR, Gainward Ultra 700-8X XP (Ti4200), 56k Modem, CD-RW, XP is booting off a 120gig Seagate SATA drive, 2000 is booting off an 80 gig Seagate ATA100 drive.

After reinstalling the entire system, installing latest drivers, doing full windows updates, installing Norton Anti virus and doing a full system check, I am now back to the position that made me re-install everything in the first place, continuous blue screens on XP start up. These usually appear just after the windows intro music finishes playing and are of various types....

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_TO
etc

Sometimes XP will get past these and manage to start up with a "windows has recovered from a serious error" window. Though it seems to get worse and harder to get past everytime.

2000 seems to be running ok at the moment - though when I started it after the latest blue sceen I got a NAV message ""A valid digital signature was not found for this component."
This had happened previously as well.

I am not sure where to start with this problem and it is driving me a lil' crazy!

Thanks for your help,
Brian
