The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

98se to XP switchover

Asked by drprm1 in Windows XP Operating System

Tags: ntfs, xp

I was having irritating stability problems with 98se which were getting worse. I tried alot of things to try and fix it (new fans for overheating, ran sfc, repaired IE, reinstalled IE, got rid of as much stuff as possible in the startup, etc). I think what I needed was to fdisk and reinstall 98 and then all hardware and software, but this would take alot of time and I may not have access to all the software, and above all I wanted the better stability that I think xp brings. I decided to try and switchover to xp. My plan was/is:
-install another hard drive (D:)
-install xp on D: (now I'll have dual boot ability and can install hardware and software and
                           check the compatability)
-reformat C: and use it for storage

I did install the new drive and xp on it. I used the files and settings wizard to copy things over to xp on D:
Questions: When I'm running xp is it using anything on C: drive? - if I reformatted C: would things run correctly.
Would I have been better off not running the files and settings wizard and just installing the hardware and software  in xp? startover?
How would I turn xp into the sole operating system and change both drives to NTFS? change D: to master and C: to slave?

I use this computer daily for accounting purposes and can't be without it so downtime is an issue.I did make a ghost image of the C: before starting.

Appreciate the help
