ive placed my win xp recovery cd and a windows 2000 recovery cd in the disc drive and restarted , but i still get the same screen.
does it attempt to boot from those cd's? If not, go into bios and make sure the cd is set to boot first before the hard drive.
no it doesnt boot from the cds.... how do i get into bios?

it seems to work when i press the escape key at the start, but then i only get one choice "Press [F1] key for default setting." then the roblems continues as per original post!
its all ok i figured it out myself, turn out on Toshiba noteboks (satellite) you nedd to press the F12 key right at the start of the boot up sequence in order to select what drive you want the notebook to read from initially. I did this then selected the CD-rom drive and ran the recovery CDs, no problem or should i say problem solved!!
delaroza,

mind if I have the grade changed to a 'B'? After all, a 'C' is kind of low since I did help through most of the processes and had to go to sleep which is why I didn't respond. :-) I'm glad you did get the problem fixed!
