Question

Outlook.exe - no entry point found ... GetIUMS & MSDART.dll

Asked by: hooch_au78

Hi,

I have spent a couple of days trying to find an answer to this. When starting Outlook 2002(xp pro. corp. ver) i get this message pop up 7 times
"Outlook.exe - No entry point found
The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library msdart.dll"

This started happening after a windowsupdate on friday..

What i have done so far but nothing has worked

1) removed the hotfixes downloaded by windows update
2) reinstalled the hotfixes ( incase of corrupt files originally)
3) renamed msdart.dll to msdart32.dll
4) cleared icon cache
5) installed MDAC ver 2.7,  when that didn't work i installed ver 2.8
6) replaced msdart.dll ( & msdart32.dll) with copies from another pc

I am just about to give up and wipe the pc clean and rebuild it .. but would prefer if i didn't have to ...

Any help would be great

Peter

press shift + f10 to go to command prompt.
then type taskmgr.exe and then hit enter
in the window "end task" the error msg
and then in process list end the program named unregmp2.exe
close all windows and restart the computer

techietech,

I have tried what you suggested but under the process list I do not see unregmp2.exe at all.

If you uninstal Office completely also run the "Offcln" utility found on the CDROM.

It will clean up all residue after uninstall and this has worked for me many times.

You said that you replaced msdart.dll with a version from another pc.  Unless it was the same version as your old (presumbably good) msdart.dll file, then it might not be compatible.  I would go into a good file search utility like Agent Ransack (Windows search won't find much unless you've patched all the bugs) and search all the drives for msdart.dll.  Make a copy of each version and put into a separtate folder with the version number in the folder name.  Then, beginning with the earliest version, go into the recovery console and replace the existing active one to see if you can find one that has an entry point.  Check the version after you boot back into normal mode to make sure that Windows File Protection didn't undo your swap.  Before you go to all that trouble though, you might want to try Last Known Good Configuration using F8 on startup to access the boot menu, then System Restore, then the following.

You might want to try running system file checker to make sure the dll isn't corrupt.  Insert the install disk, click start, run, type     SFC  /SCANNOW    into the window and hit enter.  It might take 30 minutes but it will replace any corrupt system files with the most recent upgrade version installed on your machine.

Hi,

When I had this problem I could not find anything but reinstalling the office package.
Repair didn't help.
Do not forget to save all your data before uninstalling.
Good luck

I had the same problem with Outlook 2003 after I did a repair install of Windows XP, and I fixed it by downloading a newer version of MSDART.dll.  Check the version of your existing MSDART.dll file to make sure the one you are replacing it with is newer.

Good luck...

I had the same error on an 'upgrade' from XP home to XP Pro.

solved the problem, no sweat, no problem.

I've downloaded a new version of MSDART.dll just as a procautionary move any how, after the install completed.

Same problem here occured after a Widows Security Update from MS. I selected an earlier resore point on my PC and now the problem has gone. I am computer illiterate - maybe i have done the wrong thing.  Anyway, the problem has gone after restoring to an earlier point in time.

I'm having the same problem, and it's in an office with brand new machines.  The customer goofed and bought home.  We had to upgrade to Pro to be on a SBS network, but now Outlook 2003 hangs when we open it and we get the same error.  I don't know what to do.  I've tried uninstall/reinstall, safe mode, detect repair, all latest patches, and unregmp2.exe isn't in my list under task mgr.  The only other thing I haven't tried is the newer file.

Any other thoughts?

msdart.dll  in your /windows/system32 doesn't point to the getiums's entry as described on your message alert : I had the same problem to resolve.
The fact was : the bad msdart.dll (proprety) had the version 2.71.9030.0 build by : LAB06-N(dagbuild).
1) you should desactive the  sytem restore
2) rename your current msdart.dll on msdart_s.dll
3) install an up to date msdart.dll from a pc hosting a xp sp1 not concerned with that problem (just a copy )
    I've introduced a new version : 2.71.9042.0 build by LAB06_N(sqlbld)
4) restart outlook
5) don't forget to active now the sytem restore

good luck
