PXE-E53 no boot filename received

I'm using Xp Pro with service pack 1 with a 6 month old pc with a fairly high spec. Over the last couple of weeks my pc has been freezing and then then going into ms dos and doing this :

PCI device listing (lists all me devices below)

Verifying dmi pool data
Boot from cd

Boot agent fe v4.1.10

Client mac addr 00 0c 76 27 93 B8
guid ffffff ffff ffff ffff ff

DHCP (this symbol 'I' rotates)

PXE-E53 : no boot filename received
PXE:MOF : exiting Intel boot agent

After that the only way to get back to windows is to turn off the pc. Restart justs takes you back to the pci device listing bit.

Added information -  I've also had a whining noise coming from the pc on a cold start up, it lasts about 10 seconds), sent it back to the manufacturer, they said it was a wire too near the power pack, and sent it back, it started again a couple of days later.  And during the freeze before it goes into ms dos, the hard drive makes a churning noise.

Any help would be great.

First option: Change the boot order to c: [hard drive]. If that does not help, your hard drive may be failing.

the pc seems to try to boot from network (PXE). Does XP reboot after the freeze and then comes the PXE-messages ?
try to disable the "booting from network" in BIOS
maybe it is an initiating harddisk-crash: one time the harddisk is found. the other time the hd is not found (and next in bootorder is PXE-Boot from the network)

make a harddisk-backup asap ...

After the freeze and hard drive churning noise it goes straight into a black screen and starts the PCI device listing and then follows the PXE messages.  I'll go into the bios and disable the boot from network and change the order to boot from hard drive.  As there can be many hours between crashes, I'll have to wait to find out results.
