1/. Is all the hardware identicial? You could create a ghost image and use sysprep to prepare that image for mass deployment.

3/. What kind of remote desktop are you looking to deploy on the 98 and 2000 boxes as they have nothing native? Group policy will allow you to publish/assign software to 2000 and XP boxes. Don't think you can do that on the 98 box - might be other solutions - will look.
4/. Remote assistant/desktop is only available on Windows XP. I believe you can issue the chkdsk command from remote but it will most likely have to schedule the chkdsk process on a reboot - so you will be stuff there.
