Question

HP recovery

Asked by: cree_comp

Hey guys/gals

Got a problem...as usual. I'm working on an HP Pavilion 750n. I'd like to do a clean installation from the HP PC System Recovery. I get an error saying that "no partition is found" and then it t4ells me that a partition will be created and the original factory-shipped files will be recovered to user partition. So I click ok..then it says "cannot create user partition ! System Recovery cannot continue ! This particular system didn't come shipped with recovery disks. What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks

Then try using a normal winXP cd-rom :)

There is a softpaq from Compaq/HP to cleanup Hard disk and do a clean restore. The softpaq is SP20532.

For download,

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp20501-21000/SP20532.exe

For more info,

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp20501-21000/SP20532.txt

Although it is for presario it works well with pavilions as well.

You try the same and then run the recovery from the CD. This should help.

NOTE: Try the suggestion at your own risk as it will clean the Hard Disk completly.

Good Luck!!!

I don't have any cd's. If I clean the hard disk completly...then I'm lost and I don't have a "normal" winxp cd.

Let's see if I understand your problem. You don't have recovery disks but you want to use the recovery option?
Did your system come with the special partition that had the recovery files on it?

Is your HD still original?
Has it ever had fdisk run on it and partitions removed or created?
Does the CMOS (BIOS) show the HD correctly?
Did you run scandisk? with full surface scan?

HP Pavilions that ship with Microsoft Windows XP do not come with recovery CDs. Instead, they use a hidden space (partition) on the hard drive to store the recovery information. The use of a hidden partition provides a convenient process that eliminates the use system recovery discs that may be lost or scratched. Recovery discs for Windows XP are available from HP for a minimal cost. Go to the section " Related support " for ordering information.

OK....I guess I have to explain it a little better. I have an HP Pavilion that I need to do a clean install on. Recovery disks do not come shipped with this computer. There is a hidden recovery partition which I'm trying to use, but, when I try to use it, it says that it cannot detect a user and partition and then it proceeds to create one..but it comes back with an error saying that it cannot create a user partition and HP PC recovery cannot continue. Nothing has been done to it prior to this. It's still the original HD. I want to know if there's a way around this without having to order recovery cd's...because that would takes weeks to get way up here.

Thanks

At this point you only have two choices:
One is to order the replacement Recovery CD's and wait on them.

Or two, go buy a regular copy of XP and install it.

Did you check the HD to be sure it isn't failing on you? You problem may be hardware related.

In the meantime I would go ahead and order the Recovery software so you will have it for any future problems.

I woud suggest a Recovery CD or otherwise, you would run into troubles instsalling drivers
