Multimedia Audio Controller PROBLEMS

Also when did it start happening,,,,, i mean did u made any changes to the system, e.g installed some software or hardware etc etc ??

thanks Sheha .. I am a bit nervous of doing that .. I have just upgraded XP over 98SE and have no end of trouble with windows not 'seeing' drivers that were there and working before.  I cannot find my sound card CD .. but yes, that was my next step ... lets see !!

coz the OLD drivers were for Win98 and now u are running XP, so u shud get the XP Compatible drivers of all ur hardwares !!!!
And if u are not having the drivers CD which contains XP compatible drivers, then u can Download this utility and install it,

EVEREST Home Edition:

it will give u a list of all the hardware attached to ur system, note down the correct
version and make of ur required device, and then search for the appropiate drivers either on
the manufacturere site, or u can also find them on www.driverguide.com ( username: driver,
password: all )

because you dont have the driver for the sound card installed, you've got nothing to loose from removing it from device manager, so remove it and restart, if still no good, then get the drivers from on-line and use that to install.

well .. I did uninstall and reinstall the sound card .. this did work .. but then I found a driver/file called "SiS 7012 Audio Device" which seemed to tie up with a few things, so I tried that .. and it WORKED .. I now have sound.  Thank you for all your helpful suggestions .. good information ..

oops .. I meant to say that reinstalling did NOT work .. not that it worked .. sorry .. also I wanted say about the Everest utility and driverguide.com .. both were excellent resources and helped me find the solution ..

YES the problem is fixed ..

The problem was with the Audio Device NOT the sound card ..

I needed a driver for the Audio Device "MultiMedia Audio Controller" ..
Everest and DriverGuide showed me the driver I needed, and the manufacturer so I found the file <SiS 7012 Audio Device> on the SiS website and downloaded it.

It Worked ..

Sheha .. I got the grading wrong .. I thought we got to grade andwers, not just the one.  I would have graded A=Excellent .. you were a marvellous help .. can I fix it ?

Yes, it just required a request in Support area to ask a moderator, he will come here and chnage the Grade :)

yes .. THANX modulo ;-)

so now .. on to the next thing .. I did a flash update to my AOPen Motherboard last night .. very scary .. but everything went well .. I used their utility EzWinFlash.

now I seem to have only 2 problems left ..

the HP OfficeJet printer hangs the system ..

trying to run some programs hangs the system ..
example: msconfig and regedit will only run properly in Safe Mode ..
they start okay .. run for about 10 seconds, then disappear.

Thats my project for today .. I'll let you know how it goes!
