Hi jdff,
What do you mean by this Residential software ?
Wont these help
Some of the experts here have helped in compiling all the important spyware tools and they are listed in this thread

My recommendation would be to start with spybot ,ad-ware ,CWshredder and post the log from Hijackthis
After installing them, First Update them and then run
SR..
Download this version of spybot
spybot : www.softpedia.com/public/c
SR
Were you using Immunize or Tea Timer? The paid version of Ad-Aware has a resident mode as well, but as far as free software, Spybot is the only one that comes to mind. We use a script to install Spybot on our client computers that also creates a scheduled scan of the machine. It isn't exactly resident, but it does daily scans of the machines so they stay pretty clean.
@echo off
"<Server>\<Share>\spybotsd
cls
echo Installing Spybot and creating scheduled scans.
"%Programfiles%\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SpybotSD.exe" /taskbarhide /autoclose /autoimmunize
schtasks /delete /tn "Spybot Scan" /f
schtasks /create /tn "Spybot Scan" /sc daily /st 01:00:00 /ru system /tr "\"%ProgramFiles%\Spybot~1
My friend also uses some other lesser known program that is supposed to be a resident program as well. I'll have to get the name from him sometime.
