The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Password Recovery-Can someone try these utilities to see if they work. I tried one.

Asked by pacumming in Windows XP Operating System

Tags: xp, file, windows, password

I lost my job for the 3rd time-lay off in IT Management. I am thinking of doing a little consulting and had 1 gig where someone lost their password.

I went home and tried the below link/utility on my Win2k machine and afterwords could not even log in. I typed in a password change of lets say jodie2 . After rebooting my Win 2k Pro standalone PC did not recognize the password under my usual Administrator account so I logged on under a spare admin privilefed name and had to change it manually.

Therefore the utility (unless I did something wrong) did not work in resetting the password.

Would love someone to try one of these utils and see if they do work.

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/  (See Download section on page-the FAQ indicates it should work on Win2K PRO w/o AD and XP)

As for this http://www.jsiinc.com/subk/tip5200/rh5283.htm  (I never found an entry "password" a indicated in the write-up. Tried on an XP machine.

have not tried this yet:

http://www.lostpassword.com/windows-xp-2000-nt.htm#order (Too expensive to even try)

Am open to other ideas as an FYI if I run across anyone that cannot get into their machine. I once ran a recovery/repai utility ona PC on a network and it changed the password and said it was in the setupact.log but I could never get to the file since I could not log on. Duh... I did not have Barts PE Boot disk at the time.

Looking at the SAM file myself or setupact.log as some people say offered no clues. Some of the people I will service will have Win XP

Thanks in advance.
