Question

Windows Media Player 10

Asked by: gisvpn

One of my clients is having problems listening to the following link...

http://streams.interoutemediaservices.com/clients/chrysalis/lbc_973.asx

All the other computers can listen to the link and it was working on Friday no problems on this computer. Its using Windows Media Player 10 on Windows XP SP2 and it gives the following message when Media Player opens....

Windows Media Player cannot play any items in the playlist. For additional information, right-click an item that cannot be played, and then click Error Details.

However i click ok and i cannot view any error details. It seems not to be linked just to this, its also any link like this one.

client is having no problems with anything else related to network, email or internet, its just using these streaming links.

Any suggestions :)

Many thanks

Hello gisvpn =)

this link is using Windows Media Audio 9 codec... so if its now working in a system, then its possible that this codec is either missing or corrupted !!

Do this, go here and download the Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1 or later, install it and check if it can solve the problem or not ??

Hi,

Check the streaming protocols settings:

In media player go to tools > options and on the network tab make sure at least TCP and HTTP protocols are checked.

Hope this helps

try to play it in Real Player or in any other player, if it will play there fine then it will confirm that problem is with WMP, and if it will not play there also, then we will consider it as firewall and blocked ports issue !! :-/

by: gisvpnPosted on 2004-10-10 at 11:51:34ID: 12272189

Hi thanks for your post.

I have installed Real Player, however it cannot seem to play it either. Its strange as i tried to play it via Real Player but I still got a pop up message from Windows Media player - exactly the same as before -Windows Media Player cannot play any items in the playlist. For additional information, right-click an item that cannot be played, and then click Error Details.

Its strange as firstly im trying to do it via Real Player and its close yet im getting a message from WMP ? and secondly i - via set program access and defaults turned off Windows Media Player ! Why should Media player be giving me the message ?

Im not sure it the router now as i tried it on another machine on the same network computer and theirs works fine.... HUMMMMMMM

If you can try the direct connection, this will give a better idea if it is media player or something else.
