Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Problem (not virus)

I have checked through the database using the solutions detailed and still did not manage to solve this problem. I am not a very technically inclinced person so I would need simple instructions (*_*)

For some reason, after connecting to the internet (dial-up), I would get the message

"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a Problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".

After that, I would not be able to surf the internet or download my mails and I have to restart the computer. This happened quite frequently although on some lucky occassions, I managed to surf the internet for hours without encountering the error. However, there are also occassions where I would encounter the error after surfing the internet for 5 minutes or so.

I KNOW it is not a virus --- I have scanned the computer repeatedly using both Norton as well as online services (e.g. Panda). I am pretty paranoid over viruses and after using computers for 7 years, none of my computers have ever been infected.

I do not have Zone Alarm -- I understand from various posts that it could be one of the reasons for the Win32 services problem.

I would really appreciate it if you could solve my problem.
