The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Windows Explorer in XP crashes unexpectedly when navigating nested folders

When I open Windows Explorer in XP Pro and navigate down to the lowest level directory, sometimes Windows Explorer hangs for 10 to 20 seconds then crashes. The desktop background image is the only thing visible on the screen for a second or two then the screen redraws with all icons, toolbars, start menu, task bar and system tray back in place. The crash causes one program in the system tray to go away. It doesn't happen everytime I use Windows Explorer. However, once I find a folder that causes it, it will crash everytime when I go to that folder. I haven't noticed problems in IE when I have used it, although I use Opera for most browsing. This problem started after I purchased and installed Eovia Carrara Studio 3 and Amapi 3D. These are 3D modeling and animation programs. I installed these programs from CD-ROMs. After uninstalling the programs, the problem does not go away.

Another Expert Exchange member had a very similar problem. The solution for him was to run AdAware and this solved the problem for him. After running AdAware, it did not solve the problem for me although the program did find some potential browser hijackers which I deleted.
