Good Day All,
My problem deals with a folder on my desktop that simply refuses to go away. The only way I've been able to delete it to the recycle bin is by pasting another folder into it and then deleting. The only problem is that it returns when I reboot. I've attempted to remove it in safe mode but when I log on as an administrator, the folder isn't there. When I use my own name, it appears, but again I cannot remove. When I try to delete it Windows states that it can't read from the source file or disk. I tried changing it to a read file, turning off system restore, changing the name of the file (I can do this if I paste another folder into it), scanning my machine for malware with Norton, trend micro, spy sweeper, spybot, adaware, spy subtract, Trojan Hunter and a host of other spyware programs, but anything that they have found has not solved the problem. I have a hijack this file, but some of the entries are ambiguous so I didn't remove any.
I don't know if this is related, but recently I was experiencing major slowdowns with my PC. It would take forever just to right-click on a folder and open up a box. Task manager showed 90%+ of my processor resources being used at times, even when my system was idle. It may be a coincidence, but that problem has cleared up since I uninstalled a Windows update for Explorer (even though I normally use Firefox). The security update was KB834707 and I had installed at about the time the slowdowns occurred.
A while ago I had a similar problem with another folder and was able to delete it with a cmd command. Unfortunately the suggestion I got from another forum also wiped off half of my desktop items, including important pictures I was editing. It also deleted all of my outlook folders and my address book. I believe the command was: RD /S /Q[drive path] F: [folder name]. As I mentioned, that folder was deleted but a new one emerged soon after, which is the one I'm presently stuck with.
Thanks for any assistance,
W1
