What u mentioned was that the XP asked for Username and PAssword... and u disabled the hard disk.. u cannt enter the BIOS Setup and computer wont Boot...

All these are contradicting themselves..!!! how u got XP Username screen if it is not booting and how u disabled ur Hard disk if u cannot enter BIOS Setup..!!!

Power OFF and Power ON the system and immediatly after u see Lights on ur keyboard come.. Press F2 or F10 or DEL key several times... this should invoke te BIOS setup... goto Boot Order and change the order to look for Floopy then CDROM and then Hard disk to boot.

I suspect some Virus or Malware that has hijacked ur PC. Boot ur system with a clean CD and run an Antivirus to see any thing it finds.. clean it up and restart the machine and let it boot XP... see if that helps.

If I let the system try to do a normal boot, it goes to the logon screen with a user name and then asks for a password.
This system has never had a user setup, always booted right into admin account...only account on the system.

Anything else fails.  Won't boot with floppy.  Won''t go into bios.  Either one of those operations system will just stop on empty screen.  I disabled the hard drive (pulled the cable off the drive)  thinkging I could boot with florry to command prompt...nothing. Also tried to boot from cd, but again it just dies in the process.

Bought 2 software packages to use to try and break password....neither works because it won't read floppy or cd.

try replacing the floppy drive and cable

your main problem is that you cannot get into BIOS..... coz your BIOS must have not set to boot from the floppy or cd drive first.... and thus its ignoring them.... what you need is just to get into BIOS..... and to get into BIOS, power on the system and immediately start tapping the F1 key until you get into BIOS..... remember immediately after you hit the power button, start tapping F1 key.....!!

I have tried getting into the bios numerous times.  It shows starting to enter setup, but then just stops with no activity.
The system accesses the floppy and reads the files but again just quits.
Since I can't get it to go into any state where I can do anything...how can I get to fdisk or begin a recovery or clean install?

then you need to take out hard drive.... hook it in another system as slave drive..... backup your data to the other system, then format this drive..... and then hook it back to your system and now check if same issues ??

** btw have you tried to restore the BIOS defaults...... i mean taking out the CMOS battery and then hooking it back after 20-30 minutes ??
