Deleting files does not go through recycle bin

Whenever I delete any file from the folders, it directly deletes the file without going to the recycle bin as it used to earlier. I find the recycle bin always empty although I dont shift+delete files. I have SP2 updated. Please provide a possible solution for it without re-installing OS.

If you right click on your Recycle Bin, select Properties, on the Global tab, remove the check mark next to the option saying "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted."

Leetutor, that option isnt checked, but still it skips the recyle bin! There seems to be some other problem.
If you are deleting files from a networked drive, then that is normal. The recycle bin is always only active for the actual PC you are working on.

It isnt any network drive, I am deleting it from my own disk on a stand-alone computer.
Try checking the option, then unchecking, perhaps with a reboot of the computer in between.  Also, in case there are file corruptions on the hard drive:  have you tried running check disk and system file checker?

Click Start, then Run and type:

chkdsk c: /f

You will get the following message so hit the y key and reboot

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Then try this go to Start->Run and type

sfc /purgecache
sfc /scannow

that will check for corrupted system files. Have your XP installation CD handy.
Hi!

The problem you describe, concerning the recycle bin, is one of
the indicators of a particular VX2 infection.
Download HijackThis and install it into it's own folder -
download it from here:
http://www.gatesofdelirium.com/ee/tools/

With all browser windows closed - run it and then run your log file through
the analysis site here:
http://www.hijackthis.de
(Do not have HijackThis fix anything and please, do not post your log file here!)
Then post a link to your log file here; and we can, at least, tell you if
you have that particular infection.

Good luck!

I tried with all your suggestions, but it still doesnt work out. One thing I found out was that deleted files from drives other than C are being sent to the recycle bin, but none from the C drive. Any suggestions?
How about trying this:

I believe my experience is perhaps related to rossfingal's solution. I had the same problem after installing a new hard drive and performing a backup recovery. The problem was solved when I did an "Empty Recycle Bin" even though it was already empty.
Phousley's suggestion worked perfectly for me as well.  after researching this problem, that was all it took. My situation was the same, intalled a second hard drive, and the recycle bin no longer worked.
Well Done Phously, I had a similar problem with my recycle bin and nothing worked except  your fix worked like a charm without fail. Well done mate.
