Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI get no error messages, but just recently my system has been freezing for a couple of minutes after i've logged on. it'll remain frozen for a minute or so, not responding to anything, the floppy drive will kick-in and they'll be a bit of hard drive action and then it's ok. so the programs will load into the system tray first, then the computer is quiet and in a state of what appears to be "ready for action", but nothing will respond untill the floppy has done it's bit.
i've ran norton antivirus, spybot, ad-aware but no luck. please can you help?

Eureka!!
I went into Safe Mode and i wasn't having the problem. I then thought I'd see if the scanner was the problem which I installed the other day. it hasn't even been turned on while i've been experiencing this problem so i didn't think it was an issue. so i uninstalled it in device manager and the problem has gone. do you think i need to update the driver?
thanks to all for your help. as it was systemprog who suggested safe mode i'll award the points to you. i hope that's ok with the rest of you.

go to start--->run--->msconfig-- ->startup ->services
download/d ownload_hi jackthis.h tml
click on disable all
start--->run--->msconfig--
click on hide all microsoft services, click on disable all
restart the computer. did the same thing happen upon bootup?
if no, it means that the computer most probably is infected by spyware.
download hijackthis
http://www.spychecker.com/
post the log here
http://www.hijackthis.de
the log will be analyzed. the ones labeled as nasty are the bad stuff. fix them using Hijackthis, just put a check on their corresponding boxes on the hijackthis program. but before you do so, try to look 'em up first in google, try to see what it does. also look into the other entries labeled as "unknown".
