The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

WIndows XP Freezes Randomly

Asked by Franco_Rivera in Windows XP Operating System

Tags: xp, freezes

I have WIndows XP Pro. in one of my computers and fro some reason it is freezing randomly to the point  that no mouse or keyboard is available. Only a hard reset could be done at that point. I've been researching for this problem on the net with no luck at all.  This is my PC Configuration:
Hardware:
-1Gb RAM
-200Gb Segate HDD( 2-100G Partitions)
-IOMEGA DVD+RW Drive
-IOMAGIC DVD+/-RW/DL/DF
-Pentium 4 3.0Ghz with Hyperthreathing enabled.
-PCChips Tidalwave T12 Motherboard
-ATI 64Mb AGP Video Card.
-Realtek Intergated NIC 8169
-Intel 8265Pe Chipset
-Intel 82801eb I/O controller hub
-Maxtor Ultra DMA 2  1333 two ports IDE controller card
-CNR Modem

Software:
-Windows XP Service Pack 2
-Firefox 1.0
-AVG &.0 Free Ed.
-VMWARE work. 4.0
-Incredimail
-Direct Update
-MS Office 2003 Pro.
-Lavasoft Ad-Aware
-Nero 6.3
-DVD Decrypter
-DVD Shrink
-Webshot Desktop
-Microsoft AntiSpam Software BETA
-Mail Enable Software (is free a mail server for XP)
-Adobe Acrobat

This is what's on the event viewer right before the "hangs":
-ESENT      Information      General       101      N/A      WINDOWS      wuauclt (3336) The database engine stopped.
-ESENT      Information      General       103      N/A      WINDOWS      wuaueng.dll (3336) SUS20ClientDataStore: The database engine stopped the instance (0).
-ESENT      Information      General       102      N/A      WINDOWS      wuaueng.dll (3336) SUS20ClientDataStore: The database engine started a new instance (0).
-ESENT      Information      General       100      N/A      WINDOWS      wuauclt (3336) The database engine 5.01.2600.2180 started.

This is what I've done so far:
-Antivirus Scaning
-Spyware Scaning
-Windows update (untill there were no more updeates available)
-Change the HDD for the actual one.
-Memtest
-Remove and reinstalled applications (MS OFFICE, ANTIVIRUS, etc....not the OS because )
-HijackThis without nothing unusual (Ican post the log if somebody wants it)
-CHKDSK /F /I
-Disabled uneeded start up files from MSCONFIG
-Load Optimal settings on the BIOS
-Last Known good configuration
-Change the Power Supply (From 350Watts to 400 watts)
-Bought a new case with two fans,(One 8mm on the side and another one bigger on the back, so I don't think is cooling issue)
-Although this is a new board (bought on December) I took out all cards and reinserted them cleaning the port from any possible dust or whatever. I even changed the case for this one, so on the iinside is cool and clean.

As of writting this question I'm turning off Automatic updates from the system (prevously readed on another forum), to see if it works.
Please, any input will be greatly appreciatted because I'm getting crasy with this issue. Ihave no Idea of what to do next, besides reinstalling everything, but on all the research I've done regarding this,. there are many people that did it already and the issue is back.

Please advice....
