The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. (while trying to search drives)

Asked by Turkmanna in Windows XP Operating System

Tags: encountered, explorer, has, problem, needs

Well I have the same problem.. Kind of! I can not search my harddrives at all. In regular left click or the right click of Windows explorer ends up in same problem. I have tried all fixes suggested on threads provided on your sight to no avail. I still get the "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and this is the error signature:
AppName: explorer.exe      AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180      ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180      Offset: 00037fd4
Please help! Here is the history of what has happened. I had installed WSP 2 for XP and did not pay attention to the fact if this problem was occuring beforehand or not. Either way, I tried to restore. Unfortunately when I updated to SP2 calendar on system restore was reset to the day of install and there was nothing furthe back... Well, I tried Start->Run->SFC /Scannow and it just ran thru and ended with no results or response(I am not sure if it did anything!?) Then I checked for spyware with Mcafee and adaware; all clean(at least that is what they say) Then I tried the key deletion stuf in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers. Not a thing still. I have removed and reinstalled Windows SP 2. Nothing! Finally created new profile with administrative rights turned on and Notta!!!! Anymore ideas? I am getting ready to upgrade a CPU and double the memory and going to get a 7800 RPm hard drive for faster gaming. I wanted to save my files before doing so and maybe reloading the whole windows again. HELP! HELP!
