Check for malware.

Additionally, your machine could be suffering from overheating: try using your PC with the casing open and (if possible) an additional fan.

hi:

>>around 80% when i on the PC
what does it mean?
hv it go through BIOS scanning??

do u hv XP cd?

Perform a reinstallation of Windows XP, sometimes called a <Repair> installation
========================================================

1. Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. For more information about how to do this, refer to your computer's documentation or contact your computer manufacturer. Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

2. When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

3. Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

4. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

5. In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

6. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

it might hardware issue:

Remove everything that is installed or connected to your computer so the only things remaining in the case are:

Motherboard, processor, and cooling fan
Graphics card
One stick of RAM
One hard drive
One CD ROM drive

No sound card, no network interface card, no modem, no extra hard drives or CD ROM drives. Especially important is not to have more than one memory stick, and it should be a minimum of 128MB. Connect up the monitor, the keyboard and the mouse and power up the machine.
Go into the BIOS settings and look for a setting for the basic BIOS default configuration. Select it, then make sure that if you're booting from a CD ROM that the CD drive is the first boot device.

Reboot and let see.....

Once you have the basic operating system in place it's a simple matter to start adding back in the extra memory, drives, and devices that were stripped out initially.

Add the pieces back one memory stick, one hard drive, one network interface card at a time and test the system for proper operation after each addition.

Right click on My Computer and select properties. Then click advanced tab, then click the settings button in the Startup and Recovery Section, then remove the check from Automatically restart (in the System Failure section), rebot until you get a blue screen error or a dump....

let us know which one and any error messages that are reported.

Cheers,

J

The thing that gets me most is that even though the posted resolutions/steps are valid, no one yet knows what the possible cause's of the problem could be....how can anyone know where to begin when no one knows, with ANY type of certainty what the CAUSE of the problem is?

Just curious.

Cheers,

J
