IE does not load, consumes CPU.  Same with explorer programs like 'my computer'

Hello,

I've got Windows XP Home edition.

I have automatic updates from windows, same with Norton's Antivirus and also counterspy. Also run adaware periodically. So everything should be up to date!

Yesterday, IE stopped working. I rebooted the machine. Whenever I try to load IE nothing happens. In application manager I can see that the iexplore process is there, and its consuming about 95% of CPU all the time. The computer obviously gets slower and slower. If I kill the iexplore process things are fine.

Even worse, if I try to click on "my computer" or "control panels" or other things explorer related, the same thing happens with the explorer.exe process, and the application is not started. If I kill this process, explorer is kaput - it doesn't restore itself like it can sometimes do.

If I reboot I have the same problem. BUT, if I switch user to a personal account (rather than using the 'owner' account) then both explorer and IE work okay.

I've downloaded and installed firefox to post this message, and it obviously works!

Any help would be much appreciated.
