Audio Link: Why Sometimes Quick Time and Sometimes Not?

I have a web page with audio files for listening and downloading.

Left-clicking all but one of the files causes a download to begin, which takes many seconds (I have a slow modem connection)...

...however, when one particular file is clicked, in about 1 second the Quick Time playback bar appears in the IE window and the song begins playing immediately.

I'm not aware of haveing done anything different when I created that particular .mp3 file.

What can I do to cause Quick Time to recognize all my .mp3 files?

Are you saying only Cough Syrup opens with Quicktime and all the others open with something else, WMP for example?

Because I just checked the page and all the ones I tried opened with Winamp (As I have MP3 set to Winamp) Including Cough Syrup.

Just try one of the other ones would you, Wait for it to download and play in whatever player it wants to play in, then close the player and try it again.  Next time you try it should start immidiately as your computer will have cached it (Saved it in a temporary folder) by that time.

What player it will play in, I have no idea.  Not really sure what's happening here.

hi NoirLuna ~

well, they all run with quick time once they've downloaded, but only cough syrup starts running immediately.

i downloaded another of the songs and it ran in quick time, then i clicked it again on the web page and it had indeed been cached and began playing immediately.

so i ran one of the songs from within my computer, to see if it would get cached that way, but when i clicked on it on the web page it started doing the slow download thing

btw i did all this after making sure that quick time was associated with mp3 files.

very strange

For them all to start as soon as you click them, you need to click on and download them all.  I know you already have them all on your hard drive, but not from your browser's point of view you don't.  IE or Firefox (Whatever you use) will not know that an MP3 in your "My Music" folder is the same as the one on the site.  If the file isn't cached, it will download it.

so, I guess I must have downloaded cough syrup some days ago and forgot about it, & so it was cached & i didn't know it
