Hi d_may,

I am assuming that its getting to the windows boot up stage, then if this is the case there is a problem and you will need to reinstall windows as something is corrupt. However before doing this try booting in safe mode, if it boots ok then there is a rouge application that is causing this to happen. The event viewer in windows (right mouse on my computer and go manage, then event viewer) in here there will be a lot of things that may indicate the problem, try to find the rouge program this way. But the quickest and easiest way is to get the WinXP cd and do a reinstall, and update over the top of the existing windows application. The reapply all patches and security etc and should fix it back up.

Cheers!

ok, thanks cyberdevil67,
I am going over to this house in the morning, and I will have more to report when I get home.
"r" for repair is what you was refering to when you stated "update over the top of the existing windows application"
reapply all windows updates (including windowsXP SP-2)
First I wil go into safe mode.  Thanks, stand-by for more tommorrow.

yes but when you do a normal install you will get the option to press r for repair, not the repair via the console.

r-k and nobus, thanks for the links,  I have read them and will apply them to the problem my friend is having with booting up his computer.  He was not home today.  cyberdevil67 I understand about the press "r" for repair and not the repair via the console.

ok, I understand it is posible to recover from the blue screen of death by using the recovery console.
By using the console.  Using the command line.  It is posible to clear all and then copy new command lines.
I have found the details in the link that nobus sent me.  (From Michiel Stevens)
Also I think I need to create a SP-2 disc cause the windows-XP disc that came with this computer is only windows-XP-1.
r-k, is'nt it easier to type in the command lines than repairing?

You need to boot int he recovery console with the help of a WinXP CD...if you dont have one, then you can borrow it from someone :)
Then Insert this WinXP CD and boot into Recovery Console !!

For more info. on how to boot into Recovery Console, go here and click on
How To Access Recovery Console:
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

after entering there, when u will get the C:\Windows, type the following three commands and hit Enter after each line !!

chkdsk /r   (dont cancel if it takes too long, just wait until it finishes)
chkdsk /p
fixboot C:  (in case your windows is installed on another drive, change the driver letter according to that)

after it finishes, type Exit, and ur system will restart, take out the CD and it shud boot with your drive now without any problem
