The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Multiple XP Crashes and Unable to Run Software (Logitech, Onfolio) - New PC; Scheduled Tasks Doesn't Run; IE, Word Crashes

Asked by dogmother2 in Windows XP Operating System

Today had Blue Screen of Death. Error is:
*** STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0XAE00C2B7, 0XAC10F93C, 0X00000000)

*** SYMEVENT.SYS - Address AE00C2B7 base at AE001000, DateStamp 4272844c

Usually, I wake up to "the system has recovered from a serious error" and I send the DUMP file. Here are recent reports:

I've also gotten these recently:

Once, the screen simply went black as I was checking Outlook Mail. That was REALLY scary. It turned off, and no error report when I re-booted.

Running XP Media Edition on a new Sony VAIO. Upgraded to 2 GiG RAM. I bought the computer 5/25/05.

Ironiically, it was to replace a 1-year old Dell 8300 Desktop that had a lot of the same problems. Maddening!

I have a small home network -- a Dell wireless router, that Dell PC, Sony PC, all-in-one printer, laser jet printer, DSL thru SBC.

I've also not been able to get my Logitech io Digital Pen 2 to work, despite uninstalliing and reinstalling both that software and the .NET framework.

When I tried just now to reinstall the Net Framework, I got the "Installation Complete" note, but before that, an error:

Net Framework Initialization Error
To run this applicaiton, you must first install one of the following versions of the net framework: V.1.1.4322 ...

OK, I checked the directory, based on an old answser on this site (which is how I found you), and I have a folder with V.1.1.4322 in it.

Another odd thing: I can't get my "Scheduled Tasks" to run. Spysweeper won't sweep in the middle of the night, and CheckDisk won't run.

I can't get Onfolio software to work.

I'm a solo freelance writer, not at all technical -- but these seem like they're all related.

Software & Programs I run:
Norton AntiVirus 2005 (Update works, but Full System Scan doesn't)
Spysweeper Program Version 4.0.2  (Build 352)
WeatherBug Version 6.05
MS Office 2003, Outlook
AOL
Adobe Photoshop
Mozilla Firefox
I.E.
Mozilla
ScanSoft, various
Canon camera
Olympus digital recorder
PDF Editor
SureType
Say the Time
WriteAgain (have to use an old version; new one won't work)
A few others - let me know if you need them.

I'm not using any of the fancy media stuff that came with the computer.

I have a Logitech Cordless Click Plus Optical Mouse and Keyboard.

I hope you can help. I've been on paid tech support with the Logitech Pen people twice today, to no avail. I think the software problems must be tied to the OS problems.

THANKS so much,
Susan
