The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

cancel xp install loop

Asked by rngrfan in Windows XP Operating System

Tags: xp, cancel, setup, install

Working on a IBM Thinkpad A22e with swappable/removable floppy and cd-rom

Attempting a fresh install of xp pro sp1 on a hd that was formatted.

Install gets to the 35 min mark (installing devices) and freezes which I understand has to do with hardware.  There is nothing connected to this machine.  I have also went into the bios and disabled the USB and some other ports not necessary for install purposes.

I have to power down the machine and setup automatically starts running at the 39 min mark until the 35 minute mark and freezes again.  Constant loop.

My boot sequence is Floppy, CD, HD

Problem I if I power down and put in the floppy. It is not being read my guess is because it was not connected when xp conducted an inspection of the machine to start so it didnt load drivers.

If I put any other disc in with the cd rom xp just starts setup again.

I can shift +F10 when the process starts but i cant access the setuperr.log because it is use.

What I would love to do is somehow just cancel this setup, reformat and start again even if I go back to W2000 on it.
No Info to be concerned with so anything suggestion would be great.
